I tend to fully immerse myself in any opportunity or topic that comes my way, whether it's a new hobby, role, or industry.

For example, when I first downloaded TikTok, I spent a lot of time researching different ways to create viral content and understanding how the algorithm worked. This led me to producing several viral videos (with over 10 million views) and gaining 68K followers in just 5 months.

Another example is when I started making earrings as a hobby. I ended up creating a business out of it in high school, which later became my online boutique selling hundreds of earrings per month.

While I understand that not all hobbies need to be scaled or even be good at, I can't help but become obsessive about topics that interest me. This has also been true in my career as a product marketer. I am constantly excited to learn and improve my understanding of the field.

Since product marketing can vary greatly depending on the industry, whether it's B2B or B2C, or a startup or a corporate setting, I am curious to explore product marketing strategies from multiple perspectives.

Throughout this journey, I have found a variety of online resources to help dive deeper into product marketing, allowing me to stay up-to-date. Here are some ways I stay connected with the community and learn from experts in the field:

  1. Industry trend reports, best practices, and learning materials by Product Marketing Alliance (PMA): PMA offers a variety of content, including articles, podcasts, videos, and certificates, on a range of topics related to product marketing (anything from salary surveys, scaling the team, to refining growth strategies etc). These resources can help you stay informed about the latest developments and trends in the field and can be a great way to stay ahead of the curve.

  2. Product Marketing AMA's (Ask Me Anything) by Sharebird: This series features interviews with top product marketing executives, who share their insights and experiences on a variety of subjects related to the field (brand strategy, influencing the C-Suite, competitive positioning, category creation and more). These AMA's can be a great way to crowdsource strategies to improve your workflow, learn from experts, and discover new approaches to topics on the job.

  3. Slack Channels by Product Led Growth, PMA and Women in Product: Another great resource to stay connected to the industry and community is joining Slack channels. My personal favorite is the community led by Product Marketing Alliance, which offers a global online channel with meetups in major cities around the world, such as London, New York City and Singapore. In the slack channel, you can connect with other product marketing professionals, share job openings, discover new opportunities, and even find a mentor.

  4. Podcasts: Listening to podcasts can be a great way to stay informed about the latest trends and insights in product marketing. My personal favorite is "Women in Product Marketing" hosted by Mary Sheehan, a Product Marketing Head at Adobe. Each episode features a Q&A with a product marketing leader and offers concise, detailed examples and actionable steps to tackle challenges and opportunities within product marketing. Other podcasts to consider include "Product Marketing Insider," "Product Marketing Life," and "Ready, Set, Go-To-Market."

  5. Books: Reading books can also be a great way to stay informed about product marketing trends and best practices. Some recommendations include:

    1. Obviously Awesome: How to Nail Product Positioning So Customers Get It, Buy It, Love It by April Dunford

    2. "Product-Led Growth: How to Build a Product That Sells Itself" by Wes Bush

    3. "Hooked: How to Build Habit-Forming Products" by Nir Eyal

    4. "Everybody Writes: Your Go-To Guide to Creating Ridiculously Good Content" by Ann Handley. These books offer valuable insights and strategies for effectively building, positioning and growing products. Even if some of the information feels redundant, it can be useful to reaffirm your current efforts with those outlined in the books.

  6. LinkedIn Creators: Following content creators on LinkedIn is another way to stay up-to-date with industry trends. Elena Muslarova (Director of Product Marketing at GoDaddy), Mary Shirley Sheehan (Head of Product Marketing at Adobe Lightroom), Richard King (Founder of Product Marketing Alliance), Marcus Andrews (Director of Product Marketing at Pendo.io and Creator of Product Marketing Experts Podcast) and Lenny Rachitsky (THE product guru, sharing the popular newsletter series on LennysNewsletter.com) are all great creators to follow. They regularly share valuable insights and strategies for product success, and can serve as a valuable source of inspiration and learning for anyone looking to stay informed about the latest trends and best practices in the field.

In conclusion, staying informed and up-to-date in the field of product marketing is crucial for success in the role. By using resources such as industry trend reports, AMA's, Slack channels, podcasts, and books, you can continue to learn and improve your understanding of the field and stay ahead of the curve. By immersing myself in these resources, I have been able to discover new aspects about product marketing, dive deeper into product strategy and refine my growth frameworks.
